Depending on where you live, you can usually get wooden pallets for free simply by talking to stores or warehouses in your area. There are a lot of creative ways that you can use the wood from these pallets to decorate your home and yard. Give the following pallet craft ideas a try to spruce up your space today:
Idea #1 – Make A Wooden Sign
The boards from a pallet are perfect for making your own sign. All that you have to do is pull them apart using a hammer. Remove any loose nails, taking care not to accidentally poke yourself with any of the nails in the process. Once you have all of the boards free, cut them down to whatever size you want. Lay them face down on the ground next to one another to form the front of your sign.
Lay two boards perpendicularly across the back of the boards and attach them using nails or heavy-duty glue. These boards will act as the backing of the sign, holding the other boards together. Finish by flipping the whole thing over and using craft paint to paint words or images on the front of your sign. When you are done, you can hang it on the wall or lean it up in the corner of your garden to add instant visual appeal.
Idea #2 – Make A Vertical Garden
To make a cute vertical garden, lean the pallet up against a wall with the boards running horizontally. The top side of the pallet should be facing the wall, with the bottom of the pallet facing outward. Create shelves by attaching an additional board across the pallet next to each of the bottom support boards. Line the shelves with black garden plastic and fill them with soil. Finish by planting vegetables or flowers in the soil. As long as you keep the plants watered, you should be able to enjoy a beautiful vertical garden all summer long.
Idea #3 – Make A Rack For Holding Garden Tools
This is an incredibly simple project that is not only fun to make but is also quite practical. The best part is, you don’t need a lot of tools to complete the project. All that you have to do is paint the pallet using exterior house paint in whatever color you want.
Once the paint is dry, simply place the pallet flat against the wall of your garage or shed in an upright position and attach it using heavy-duty screws. Then, all you have to do is slide the handles of any shovels, rakes, or other tall garden tools into the opening at the top. The boards of the pallet will hold them upright against the wall so that they don’t get in your way. It is the perfect way to keep them neat and organized without having to spend a lot of money on a tool rack.
